“IBOM ICON HOTEL IS OUR HERITAGE, PRESERVE IT” – Ini Ememobong

Staff of Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort have been charged to discharge their duties effectively and maintain the excellent standard which the hospitality outfit has been known for over the years. The charge was made by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Com. Ini Ememobong while speaking at the Ibom Icon Gold-Star Award Ceremony, held on Friday, April 23, 2021.
The Hon. Commissioner urged staff of the hotel to always strive to maintain a culture of excellence in their workplace and carry out their duties diligently, noting that with hard-work and dedication to duty, they will be distinguished as excellence according to him, does not kill.
He described Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort as a five star hotel of outstanding repute, stating that it is a heritage which must be protected. “This is a heritage; we must value it. There are hotels that have lasted for 50 to 60 years and the service is still top notch. The best of guests that come to this State stay here and if you are excellent minded while carrying out your duties you’ll leave an impression in their hearts that will be difficult to forget. Therefore in a way, you are representatives of His Excellency the Governor, and the Government of the state because you are the one the visitors meet. The opinion they form about the state is largely influenced by how you treat them. If you treat them well they’ll always want to come again.”
Comrade Ememobong congratulated the winners for the month of April and commended the management of Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort for the initiative which he described as a great motivation for the workforce.
The Gold-Star Award is an initiative of the Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort to appreciate outstanding members of staff each month. In his opening remarks, the Head, Human Resources, Mr. Akan Bassey explained that the Gold-Star Award is earned on individual and departmental basis. Each month, three outstanding members of staff receive certificate and cash prizes while the most performing department receives similar prizes as well.
The Gold-Star Award winners for the month of April are as follows:
1. Overall Winner – Emmanuel Edet Marcel
2. 1st Runner up – Utibe Nsikan Edo
3. 2nd Runner up – Kingsley Etetim William.
The outstanding department for the month is Finance Department, which received a certificate and cash prize as well.
The event was attended by the General Manager of Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Mr. Charles Muia, Financial Controller, Mr. Tobias Kasaija, and Head of Operations, Mr. Gilbert Thinji. Others were Mr. Akan Bassey, Head, Human Resources, Mr. Edet Peter, Chief Security Officer, and Mr. Emmanuel Ibanga, Ag. Head, Leisure and Recreation.
The event was also witnessed by Mr. Awak George, Training Manager, Mrs. Regina Sunday, Housekeeping Manager, Mrs. Maria Ekere, Front Office Manager, while Mr. Etem Joseph, Director of Strategy in the Ministry of Information & Strategy accompanied the Hon. Commissioner.
