AGRIC COMMISSIONER SUES FOR PEACE IN INI COMMUNITIES

…appreciates Gov. Emmanuel for developmental strides in Ini

In a bid to foster peace and bring succour to residents of the two sister communities of Ibam Edet and Ibiono Ewuro in Ini LGA, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, Sunday, held a peace talk with the two communities.

In a brief event which took place at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ini LGA, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Etim Edward Akpan, and witnessed by royal fathers, women, youths and elder statesmen from the two communities and the generality of Ini Local Government Area, Dr. Edet sued for peace and unity between them.

In her remarks, Dr. Edet described as “sad and regrettable” the recently-reported clash between the two communities and charged them to sheath their swords and embrace peace.

Dr. Edet, who is also the Dean, College of Commissioners and Special Advisers, appreciated the intervention efforts of the village heads of the two communities, the youth, elders, and security personnel which she noted have restored calm in the affected areas.

While admonishing them to live in peace and harmony with one another, the Honourable Commissioner also regretted the unnecessary destruction of businesses and properties.

In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Ini appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for the giant strides recorded in Ini LGA and charged the youths to follow in the footsteps of the Governor. He thanked the Honourable Commissioner for her motherly disposition and for stepping in the matter to ensure that peace returns to the two villages and further assured her that he will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the peace which has returned to the area remained permanent.

In their separate responses, the village heads of Ibiono Ewuro and Ibam Edet, Eteidung Namyene Udoka and Obong Samuel Inyang-Udo Jp respectively, both appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for the appointment of sons and daughters of Ini into different positions of authority as well as other laudable projects which have been embarked upon by the Governor in the area. They thanked Dr. Edet for sparing a thought for their plight by providing succour for victims of the regrettable occurrence and pledged their commitment to prevent any future recurrence of such gory incident.

Others who spoke at the event and expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of Dr. Edet include, the Vice Chairman of Ini Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Marcus Akpan, the Chapter Chairman of PDP Ini LGA, Honourable Emmanuel Umah, Dr. Fedelis Udofia, Rev. Richard Edikpo, and others.
