TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: CR-SUBEB CONDUCTS 2ND PHASE OF TRAINING FOR TEACHERS
As part of efforts to improve the Basic Education System, the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CR-SUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has held the second phase of the School/Cluster Based Training workshop for primary school teachers in the State.
The 5 days workshop was held in 60 centres across the state with 2,600 participants in attendance.
Speaking at one of the training centres, Immaculate Conception Primary School, Calabar, one of the Facilitators, Dr Valentine Ntui stated that the essence of the 2nd phase of the workshop was to ensure that teachers not only know and identify teaching and learning strategies and concepts but are able to put them into practice.
Explaining the training objective, Dr Ntui said “With this training and at this level, we expect that teachers will become masters in their classrooms. Also, they can now put together functional and effective lesson notes and Implement them religiously.”
Dr Ntui applauded the Board and Government for organizing trainings to improve on teachers’ productivity in the classrooms. He further appealed for academic excellence to be rewarded and celebrated in other to restore the Country’s eroding value system.
One of the participants, a primary 6 teacher at Immaculate Conception School, Mr Donald Asuquo also extended gratitude to the Board and government for the training opportunity. He said the workshop has been enlightening and assured of putting knowledge acquired to good use.
Mr Asuquo however appealed for participants’ recommendations to be implemented after the training exercise.
The 5 days training workshop which started on Monday 26th April, came to an end today, Friday 30th April, 2021.
