From the inception of the Udom Emmanuel’s administration, investment in the education sector has been a continuous and non-compromised initiative that has formulated the seven points agenda of the administration and has thus received the necessary boost to guarantee the sustainability of the administration’s industrialization drive.
Riskat Dauda (2010) said investment in education is not only seen as a key to poverty reduction and vehicle for promoting equity, fairness and social justice but also helps to supply the essential human capital which is a necessary condition for sustained economic growth.
Governor Udom Emmanuel as a leader understands that enhancing effective investment on education has been a tenet of growth and development strategies of most countries, hence the reason he reaffirmed his stance on January 3rd, 2021 that revolution in the education sector will form the crux of the Akwa Ibom state government’s focus in 2021.
Asides the free, compulsory and qualitative education initiative, Governor Emmanuel through the inter-ministerial direct labour has renovated and reconstructed classroom blocks in public private schools across the state, made provisions of school desk and reinvented a qualitative learning ambience in public schools in the state.
It is in the same quest of building a panacea to mitigate the challenges in tertiary institutions in the states, Governor Emmanuel recently approved 3 billion Naira for the development of “Critical Infrastructure” in the state owned university.
A statement from the Commissioner of Information, Comr. Ini Ememobong, stated that the budget also created special packages for some professional courses and signposted the need for strategic scholarship awards in the areas of aviation, maritime, science and technology, in view of the opportunities these areas offer and our current comparative advantage.
Governor Emmanuel’s declared war on the education sector is a challenge that will on completion see an end to education tourism by indigenes of the state.
In other to compliment the feats recorded by the Udom Emmanuel led administration in this sector, the Frank Archibong Educational Scheme (FAES) berthed since 2017, has joined in the aggressive pursuit to better the education sector and eradicate the rots for economic gains.
Archibong once said he believes in a society where every mindset is developed to contribute immensely to societal development. Stating his conviction with the saying of Brad Henry, who posited that “No other investment yields as great a return as the investment in education, an educated workforce is the foundation of every community and the future of every economy”.
Archibong FAES has contributed immensely towards building a society the future will applaud and commend.
The essence of birthing FAES was to identify those who are willing to acquire education but lack the financial ability to accomplish the desire, facilitate the process to completion.
FAES from inception has indulged in the purchase of FREE JAMB Forms for intending undergraduates, provide a running scholarship programs for students overseas and in Nigerian institutions and various other educational programs for graduates and post graduate students.
On Monday, 3rd May,2021,over one thousand students gathered at Q.I.C Primary School, Usung Inyang Eket for an organized mock examination for students from Eket Local Government Area, seeking to write the 2021 UMTE Jamb examination, this speaks volume of the magnanimity and human face of the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon.
